Pneumonia is an infection of the lung, caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi

Pneumonia is a common illness among lung disease that occurs in all age. Pneumonia is a leading cause of death among the elderly and people who are chronically and terminally ill. Additionally, it is the leading cause of death in children under five years old worldwide. Pneumonia has caused death to more than 50,000 American each year.



Pneumonia is a lung disease that caused by an infection of the lung caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi. It is also called Pneumonitis or Bronchopneumonia. Typical symptoms associated with pneumonia include cough, chest pain, fever, and difficulty in breathing. Diagnostic tools include x-rays and examination of the sputum. Treatment depends on the cause of pneumonia; bacterial pneumonia is treated with antibiotics.

Before people know how to treat pneumonia, one-third of all people who developed pneumonia subsequently died from the infection. Nowadays, over 3 million people develop pneumonia each year in just the United States. Those treat their pneumonia are mostly cured, but about 5% of them will die from pneumonia. Pneumonia is the sixth leading cause of death in the United States.
